Chapter 12

Drake

I watch Snake and his Evie-look-a-like ride off until they’re specks in the distance. I can’t believe how much she looked like her.

Evie.

Fucking Evie.

She’s been haunting me for years. I see her face in every young, dark-haired woman I come across. It’s like they all know what I did as they stare at me with accusing eyes. I will not go down that path again. Snake has forgiven me for what I did, or at least what I told him I did. I’ve missed his friendship; I will not fuck this up again.

I’m lost in my thoughts when pain hits me in my upper left arm—I swing around to find Outlaw grinning at me.

“What the fuck, Outlaw?” I growl at him rubbing my arm.

“Aww did I hurt you, Drake? Has Drake got a boo-boo?”

“Do it again and we’ll see who gets hurt.”

He grins and tries to hit me, I step to the side, he twirls, and ends up on his arse. For a moment he’s stunned, then he throws himself backward and begins to giggle like a child.

“How drunk are you?” I ask incredulously.

Outlaw stops giggling and looks at me. “Not just booze, these guys know how to party!”

I take in his eyes and see they’re glassy. “Okay, what are you on?”

“Eccy!” He holds out his hand to me, looking for help to get up.

“You try to hit me again, and I’ll fuck you up, get me?”

“Okay, okay!” I help him to his feet. “You’re no fun.” Outlaw looks past me and smiles, I follow his gaze and see a group of women.

“Outlaw, I think you’ve partied yourself out, man. You can barely stand.”

He grins at me. “Drake, my man, I don’t need to stand for what I want to do.” Outlaw winks at me and staggers away.

I watch him go and try to decide if I should stop him when Duke appears at my side.

“Outlaw knows how to have a good time,” Duke states.

“Yeah. Think he’ll be okay?”

“He knows how to take care of himself, but I don’t believe he has a chance in hell with any of those women,” Duke says with a laugh. “You seen Snake around?”

“He found himself a woman and left.”

“No shit?” asks Duke incredulously.

“No shit.”

Duke studies me for a moment. “You having a good time?”

“It’s good to be out with other people, good to be on the road. I haven’t done this in years. When I went into business, I had to leave all that behind. There was no associating with anyone from my old life. It took years to build up a respectable image, one that people felt comfortable investing their money in. I’m glad we did this; I’m glad I found my way back. I’ve really missed the life and...I’ve missed you three,” I say with sincerity.

Duke nods. “We have the pillars to thank for you finding yourself again. You could be a dick; you know that? But you’ve been nothing but good to us for the past five years.” Duke stares at Outlaw, who appears to be sweet talking a pretty young thing.
